Aleksandr Lebedev is a product of Soligorsk Kids Sports School (DUSSH). Nevertheless he, together with his classmate Maksim Zhaunerchyk did not make it to the local Vysshaya Liga club Shakhtyor Soligorsk. As a result both moved to BATE Reserves, and soon this decision by Borisov scouts paid off. They guys soon became serious contenders for starting eleven.

Lebedev could boast perfect anthropometry. Tall and well-coordinated, he was extremely good at fighting for headers. In his first season (2003) he scored 16 goals for BATE Reserves in 30 league games and 5th November debuted in the Vysshaya Liga as a substitute in the game against FC Darida (2:0).

In 2005 Lebedev became an important element of rotation in Igor Kriushenko's squad. He rarely spent 90 minutes on the pitch, but contributed a lot into the team's performance, recording five goals and five assists. The next 2006 season became the climax of Lebedev's BATE career. The Yellow-Blues managed to win the title and the Belarusian Cup. In May the Borisovites beat FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk in the cup final (3:1 AET) and in November BATE grabbed third championship title. Lebedev scored in two last matches of the season against FC Dinamo Brest and then against Shakhtyor Soligorsk, converting the pass by Henadz Blizniuk. After that Ihar Stasevich doubled the lead, but in the second half the home side struck three times to win. Luckily Dinamo Brest manage to draw the game against Dinamo Minsk, which allowed BATE to celebrate the title.

After that Aleksandr decided to move to Kuban Krasnodar from the top Russian division. There he did not manage to become a firm started and came back to Belarus, where he played for FC Dinamo Minsk, FC Belshina Bobruisk, FC Dinamo Brest, FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk and FC Gorodeya from Division 2.
