BATE failed to prolong their unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League. After 6 games without a loss in the UCL qualification and 2 wins in the group stage BATE conceded the ninth game to Spanish Valencia CF.

Valencia forward and Spanish international Roberto Soldado was the hero of the match. Guests' No.9 scored three times to seal the victory of the Mauricio Pellegrini's side. The first goal came from a penalty. The referee considered Simic's actions in the box as a foul. And although that could be disputed, the striker converted the penalty into a goal.

The beginning of the second half was also tragic for BATE. The Yellow Blues were about to score, but instead got the second goal in their net. Vitali Radzionau did not manage to score from a close range. Diego Alves saved the ball brilliantly and the quick counterattack by Valencia resulted into the second goal by Soldado. This time the forward volleyed marvelously a cross by Guardado.

The third goal by Valencia came from a decent combination. Soldado gave a good pass to Tino Costa and cruised to the centre of the box to finish the one-two with a lethal strike.

In the remaining time both team created some opportunities but failed to score. BATE with 6 points remains a contender for a Last 16 spot. FC Bayern Munchen and Valencia CF have same amount of points and LOSC still waits for the first points to be harvested.

BATE will play their next match on Sunday at Borisov Gorodskoi Stadium. FC Brest will be the opponents. Kick off is at 17.00.

Mauricio Pellegrino (Valencia CF):

— This was an important victory, above all for the team's credibility as we went into the match on the back of a bad run away from home. It was also an important result because it means there are now three teams on six points, leaving the section wide open. We are in a good position with a home game against BATE to come. My team can still improve a lot. We knew that BATE's strength lay in their counterattacking game and we thought that gaining a draw here would be satisfactory.

However, after our first goal we controlled the ball well and we played as our opponents normally like to when they look to find space. It's not only winning that gives you confidence, it comes from being as compact a unit as we were tonight. More important than the goals was the fact that the team created chances. Today three went in for us, whereas on other days you won't get one. I hope this result well serve to strengthen us; we must look to kick on from here.

Viktar Hancharenka (FC BATE):

— We made a huge number of mistakes in midfield and at this level you always pay for that. Our opponents studied us really well, they forced us into errors. How will this loss affect us? We must seek to re-establish ourselves. We're capable of doing that and have done so previously. In fact, it'll be really interesting to see how we do in Valencia. Of course, we hoped for a better result tonight and we had a great crowd that was expecting a lot of us. We made too many mistakes in the middle of the park. Soldado makes use of such chances. At the moment we are to concentrate on the two matches of the Vysshaya Liga coming. And then to go to Valencia to show our best.
