The match of FC BATE Borisov in Porto was a long-awaited one for all Belarusian supporters. The Yellow-Blues were to play their first UEFA Champions League match since the defeat in Munich in December of 2012. And the trial was hard at once as facing Portuguese powerhouse away is difficult for any team.

The match began without any peaceful preparation with both sides aiming to gain initiative. BATE were quite confident in the first minutes earning a corner and creating several good runs in the attacking third. But an early goal spoilt the impression about the beginning. Brahimi turned out to be too good for Anri Khagush. Porto forward managed a perfect top-shelf ball with no chances for Siarhei Chernik.

BATE did not fall at once creating a good opportunity after 12 minutes of play when Mikhail Hardzeichuk was sent one on one with the goalkeeper by a perfect pass by Aliaksandr Valadzko, but the opponent turned out to be quicker.

The game seemed to have pacified after the equator, but then outstanding FC Porto leaders had their say with two goals that buried BATE's hopes for comeback. Jackson Martinez and Yasine Brahimi scored to make it 3-0.

The beginning of the second half was devastating for the Yellow-Blues as well. Yasine Brahimi completed the hat-trick with a perfect free kick that what badly given away by a mistake of Edhar Aliakhnovich. And then another massive attack. And then Adrian was quick on rebound to make it 5-0 for Porto.

As if proving that any situation can get worse even if it seems impossible, Abubakar scored the sixth using an assist of Telho, another substitute.

BATE recovered just in the last ten minutes of the game when Mladenović curled a nice right-foot shot above the bar and Iakovlev showed a couple of good slaloms past defenders. But both were just a little bit short to get a consolation goal.

Nevertheless the Yellow-Blues will have the chance to make up for this loss in the game against Athletic Club at Borisov-Arena. The match will be played 30 September.

Aliaksandr YERMAKOVICH (FC BATE):
- The score is quite eloquent, so I do not need to speak much. We saw that at UEFA Champions League level teams like FC Porto do not forgive any mistakes. And today we made too many of them. The opponents used them very well. Now all we have is to get prepared for future games and try to show our best in home games. Before the start of the tournament Porto were considered to be favourites of our group, and today they proved they were really strong. We did not play against Shakhtar Donetsk or Athletic Club, but so far I think that Porto are the strongest team in our group.

Porto 6:0 BATE
BATE 2:1 Athletic Bilbao
BATE 0:7 Shakhtar
Shakhtar 5:0 BATE
BATE 0:3 Porto
Athletic Bilbao 2:0 BATE
