Igor Chumachenko is one of the brightest playmakers in Belarusian Vysshaya Liga in the late 90s and early 2000s. He was leading the midfield in all the clubs he played for due to his abilities both to assist and to score.

Ukrainian-born Chumachenko has first settled at FC Vedrich Rechitsa, but Igor soon moved to a more ambitious FC Dnepr, where he quickly became a prominent figure. He moved to Ukrainian Chernomorets Odessa for two incomplete seasons and a returned back to Dnepr on time. Chumachenko became one of the leaders of Belarusian champions Dnepr-Transmash in 1998 scoring 10 goals in 29 games.

Amazing performance for Dnepr attracted FC Dinamo Minsk interest. Chumachenko moved to Dinamo for 19 games of 2001 season scoring 8 goals including a hat-trick at Gorodskoi against FC BATE, probably the his best game for Dinamo. That was the signal for FC BATE bosses, who transferred Chumachenko to Gorodskoi permanently for 2002 season.

That was again a timely move. Igor became an important part of the Yellow-Blues' title winning squad. With 11 goals he became the best goalscorer of BATE, including 2 goals against FC Dinamo Minsk away in Belarusian Clasico.

He also made the most important assist of the season. 8 November 2002 on a snow-covered pitch of Tractor Stadium in Minsk he made a perfect cross for Valery Tarasenka who scored a decider in golden match against FC Neman Grodno to win BATE second championship title.

2003 season was a difficult for the team as well as for Chumachenko personally. After elimination from UEFA Champions League qualification the board decided to release players with biggest salaries. Chumachenko, who had good statistics so far (14 games, 6 goals) went to Irtysh from Kazakhstan, in which again became a champion.

After his return to Belarus he played for FC Naftan Novopolotsk, FC Neman Grodno as well as in Division 2 sides FC DSK-Gomel and FC Gorodeya. And in all the teams he was the leader assisting and scoring.

In 2009 he graduated from Belarusian State University of Physical Culture as a football coach and has a UEFA A coaching license.

In September 2011 he retired to switch for coaching at FC Dnepr Mogilev. In 2013 he moved to FC BATE Academy. In January 2014 he became a part of Reserves team of the Yellow-Blues and 19 January 2015 became head coach of FC BATE Borisov Reserves.
