Playing for Dnepr Mogilev Paulau was considered to be best creator of quick counterattacks in the Vysshaya Liga. In BATE he had to change his style of play. But this enabled Aliaksandr to show new skills. In BATE he played on the flank of the midfield and as a playmaker as well as a defensive midfielder. Paulau is also great at taking dead balls.

Paulau is famous for his ability of scoring important goals. His most memorable include goal against AEK in UEFA Europa League group stage in Minsk and goal against Sheriff next year that helped BATE to qualify for 2010/11 UEFA Europa League last 32.

Sasha has the experience of international matches. After a friendly against Argentina in 2008 coach of the Latin Americans Alfio Basile presented Sasha Argentinian shirt signed by all the players. Belarusian Scholes, as Paulau is often called, put it on a auction and gave all the money to charity.

2013 season was his true highlight at FC BATE. In spite of quite limited playing time, the player showed outstanding goalscoring record of 10 goals. Only forward Vitali Radzionau had more (14). And together with Aliaksandr Hleb he shared top-assistant's crown with 7 assists. He was voted best midfielder of the Vysshaya Liga by ABFF and best player of Vysshaya Liga by uefa.com.

But 2014 season turned out to be a disappointment. Paulau lost his point-grabbing momentum and mostly appeared as a sub. In Jaunuary-2015 the club and the player decided to part.

'For sure this is really difficult to leave a team that gave me the most successful spell in my life. I had six titles, Belarusian Cup and Supercups. I would like to thank the club for the opportunity to play against top European clubs in UEFA Champions League. Wins against Lille OSC and Bayern are of course the most notable moments. I think I made my humble contribution into these wins as well, said Paulau in his farewell speech for fcbate.by.

In total he played for BATE 212 games, scored 29 goals and gave 30 assists.
