Kazantsev started his football career in his native town of Volgodonsk. His
next step was to Volgograd Olmpic Reserves School. There he met with the
would-be famous coach Leonid Slutski. Slutski would be his coach at Olimpia
Volgograd for six years. But after a serious ankle injury Vitali had to look in for a new challenge.
Kazantsev to BATE coaches before 2006 season. In Borisov Vitali played three glorious
seasons of his career. Here Kazantsev became one of the starting defenders in
the team that eventually made a breakthrough to the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2008. He was a part of the squad that fought FC Steaua, Villarreal CF, RSC Anderlecht and Levski Sofia. In 2008/09 UEFA Champions League group stage he played five matches.
There he demonstrated his ability to win tackles and headers in spite of his
height. Igor Kriushenko and later Viktar Hancharenka used him as centre-back as well as
won three Belarusian titles and one Belarusian Cup. And after the end of 2008 he moved to
Luch-Energiya Vladivostok. Spell at FC Nizhni Novgorod followed, and at the
beginning of 2013 Kazantsev signed a
contract with FC Torpedo-BelAZ.
