Ukrainian winger Andrii Iakovlev became BATE's first signing of the summer-2014. A Kharkiv-born player was raised at the famous academy of Shakhtar Donetsk. After spending a spell at Shakhtar reserves in 2006/07 he switched to Stal Dneprodzerzhinsk for 2007.

His career abroad started in Olimps Riga where he played in 2008 and debuted in UEFA Europa League to earn 2 matches in UEFA competitions. Reserves of Metallurg Donetsk followed in 2009/10. After that Uzbek side Nasaf was his new home before moving to Poltava (2011) and them Slovakian Tatran (2011-2013).

At the beginning of 2014 Andrii moverd to Slutsk and managed to make an instant impression in the Belarusian Vysshaya Liga. Andrii used his fantastic dribbling and speed to become Slutsk fans' favourite and score 2 goals and 1 assist in 17 games. The encounters against FC BATE were particularly spectacular for the 25 year-old player. And in August the Yellow-Blues made a proposal to Slutsk to buy the player.

"For me it is a dream coming true. I did not even think that the Yellow-Blues can be attracted by me. This is a huge step forward and I will try to do everything to help the team. Hopefully I will be of use for BATE in the European campaign. The team has fantastic fans and amazing stadium. This is really the best you can get in Belarus and I did not think long after hearing about a chance to move here", said the player to fcbate.by after signing a contract with the best team of Belarus.

Iakovlev scored his first goal in the game against FC Dnepr Mogilev on 16 August, netting the ball after a pass by Vitali Radzionau making it 2-0. The match ended with 3-0 and Iakovlev was named the player of the game.
